what I did
Rapid fire roundup of February; which is historically the shortest month of the year but also felt long? Kinda strange.
Lunar New Year came and went! Hosted a bunch of people at our house, including uncles, friends and my cousins.
Got the wife a lovely set of preserved flowers that came in this beautiful globe thing. I can’t bear to buy fresh flowers nowadays after the last bouquet I ordered last year died in a day thanks to some mold :(
somehow my favourite green tea I found in Japan (I think I drank 16 litres of it over the 2 weeks we were in Japan is in Don Don Donki in Singapore, so naturally my wife bought me a bottle. They sell the instant version on Shopee from the same brand and it’s pretty close to the bottled version
very thankful for the coffee shop below my house that sells a yummy kaya toast and egg breakfast at a very affordable rate. My previous favourite Ya Kun has priced themselves out of my brain unfortunately lol.
what I’m thinking about
I saved both of these images on separate occasions in February but now thinking about it, I think I was wondering why I bother sometimes to write online; both on this newsletter and other channels.
It mirrors my journey on LinkedIn somehow (and this newsletter too).
My social media and newsletter metrics are all over the place, I don’t have the biggest following nor engagement. Sometimes it feels like I’m talking into a black hole and I remind myself that the very act of creating online sharpens your thinking and documents what you do for yourself. There are moments where
But I do get people telling me they love reading this newsletter (and my Linkedin stuff as well). I have conversations with people both on email, LinkedIn or separately about the stuff I write in my newsletter. These people don’t tend to engage or comment with my work either lol.
These 2 images are my reminders. And maybe to you too - if you’re wondering why bother to create when you’re not satisfied with your metrics, social media metrics don’t tell the whole story.
Keep going! You might have more audience and reach that you may think. Some thoughts I keep as reminders to myself.
The act of creating itself helps you sharpen your thinking and develop your voice.
I always feel better after I finish shipping a newsletter, regardless of how much I don’t feel like doing it
We are responsible to show up and tell people about our work
People creep your profile and don’t comment or engage - both in the present and future
If you have an offer, you need to show up consistently for people to remember you. People are busy, life gets in the way and they need reminders
